The Transition: From managing farms to taking up arms.

Leonard enlisted in the Army on 11 July 1941, and spent the next 1,638 days in service to his country. He received an officer's retirement following his treatment for the injuries he suffered in France.

Leonard grew up on an Iowa dairy farm. He was trained by his father and supported by his family.

His time in the Army matured him beyond his age, as it did for military personnel around the world. He learned how to cook (with portion sizes he'd never seen). He learned how to lead and motivate others to follow. He made life-long friends.

He continued his  family's passion for writing, which provided the foundation for this site.
